A sweeping elevated aerial panoramic view looking northeast along Mounts Bay Road in Perth, captured in the early-to-mid 1930s. The photograph offers a remarkable bird’s-eye perspective of the southern edge of the Perth city area where it meets the Swan River, showcasing the relatively undeveloped and semi-rural character of this part of the city at that time.

In the immediate foreground, a series of neatly planted market garden rows are clearly visible — rectangular plots of low-growing crops arranged in precise parallel lines, suggesting active horticultural use of the flat riverside land at the base of the escarpment. This market gardening activity along the lower slopes and riverside flats was common in early Perth, often carried out by Chinese and Southern European immigrant communities during this era. A small rustic shelter or garden shed structure is visible among the garden plots.

Mounts Bay Road itself runs as a straight tree-lined boulevard parallel to the river, with evenly spaced trees — likely plane trees or peppermints — planted along both sides of the carriageway, giving it an elegant promenade character. The road follows the gentle curve of the Swan River shoreline, with the dark calm waters of the river occupying the right half of the image. The riverbank appears natural and largely undeveloped at this point, without the formal foreshore parklands and cycle paths that exist there today.

Beyond the road, the residential suburbs of Perth spread northward across gently rising ground, comprising a mix of Federation and interwar-era bungalows, cottages, and two-storey houses set among trees and gardens. Church spires and larger institutional buildings punctuate the roofline in the mid-distance. The horizon stretches far into the distance toward the Darling Range, visible as a low ridge under a dramatic sky filled with large cumulus clouds.

Today, Mounts Bay Road remains a major arterial road running along the southern edge of the Perth CBD beside the Swan River. The market gardens are long gone, replaced by the Mitchell Freeway interchange, the Convention Centre, and the broader Elizabeth Quay and foreshore redevelopment precinct. The riverside parklands are now formally landscaped public open space. This photograph represents an exceptionally rare view of this corridor before its transformation into a modern urban freeway and entertainment precinct.

Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading

  • Please closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be subjective and varies from person to person.
  • Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
  • Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
  • Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.

Shipping Information

  • Complimentary Combined Shipping: We offer free combined shipping for all banknotes. To take advantage of this offer, please add the items to your cart together and only proceed to checkout once you are ready to pay. eBay will consolidate the shipping at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the shipping costs will not be combined that way.
  • Customs Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs fees.
  • International Shipping: Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping companies, which we cannot control.
  • Postage Costs: Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible, sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. However, eBay charges fees on both the value of items sold and the shipping costs quoted. Additionally, eBay mandates the use of end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability.
  • Untracked Shipping Requests: If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option, we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request due to eBay’s strict shipping policies. If untracked shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the mail, and the buyer is strictly responsible for any losses in transit.
  • Tracking and Logistics: Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world, making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as we absolutely can’t control that remotely.

VAT and GST

  • We are not in control of charging any VAT or GST, as these are automatically applied by eBay.

Customer Conduct

  • Please be respectful when communicating with us. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour from buyers.
