Title
1950s Iran Abadan Boat Club Gardens Palm Grove Pergola Real Photo Postcard

Front
A black and white real photographic view, printed edge to edge with a serrated deckle edge on all four sides. There is no printed caption on the front; the location appears on the reverse.

The view looks along a broad concrete walkway or ramp leading into the gardens of the Boat Club at Abadan. The path runs straight away from the camera between low rendered parapet walls that slope down to garden level on either side, giving the impression of a causeway or bridge approach.

At the head of the ramp, on both sides, stand ornamental lamp standards with white globe lanterns on decorative ironwork brackets and moulded pedestals. Beyond, the walkway continues as a narrower paved path flanked by gravel margins and flower beds, leading to a raised urn or birdbath on a pedestal at the centre, and further on to a pergola or trellised walk of masonry piers and timber crossbeams closing the vista.

To either side the gardens are laid out with clipped shrubs, flower borders in bloom, lawn, and low hedging. A bicycle leans against a palm trunk at the left, and at the right stands what appears to be a small monument or plaque on a low plinth, with a bicycle beside it, near a paved terrace and what may be the edge of a pool or hard court.

The whole setting is enclosed by a dense grove of mature date palms, their tall fibrous trunks and arching crowns filling the left and right of the frame and continuing in ranks into the distance, interspersed with broad-leaved shade trees. The sky is pale and unmodulated.

Condition notes: good photographic detail, roughness and small losses along the deckled edges, light toning and faint surface scratches, minor corner wear.

Back
Divided back, white photographic card stock with deckled edges, printed in black. Printed text, in full:

Upper right: a boxed stamp panel with a double rule, containing “STAMP” above “HERE”

Down the centre, reading upwards: “Boat Club Abadan Iran”

Faintly impressed address rules on the right panel.

No handwriting, no address, no stamp, and no postmark. The card is unposted and unused.

Reverse condition: clean white stock, faint scattered specks, light toning along the deckled edges, minor corner wear, no album or hinge remnants.

Estimated Era
Circa 1950s, with a probable production range of about 1945 to 1965.

The card is a genuine silver gelatin real photo postcard on commercial photographic stock with a serrated deckle edge and an English “STAMP HERE” box, characteristic of the post-war decades. It comes from the same locally produced series as the Seamen’s Club, refinery, and Isfahan views, each bearing only a short English caption printed vertically on the reverse.

Abadan was the site of the great Anglo-Iranian Oil Company refinery, operated after the 1951 nationalisation and the 1954 consortium agreement by the National Iranian Oil Company. The company maintained an extensive network of clubs and recreational grounds for its European staff, of which the Boat Club, set among the palm gardens near the Shatt al-Arab, was one. English-captioned souvenir cards of this kind were made for that expatriate community and for visiting ships’ officers.

The details in the image support the bracket. The globe lamp standards, rendered parapets, pergola, and formal bedding are all of interwar and post-war company estate character, and the bicycles are of period pattern. The town’s European facilities were dismantled after 1979 and the area was devastated during the Iran-Iraq War from 1980, so views of this kind necessarily predate that.

Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading
  • Please
closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or
banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be
subjective and varies from person to person.
  • Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
  • Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
  • Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.
  • If
you have any questions or require additional information, I am more
than happy to assist. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Shipping Information

  • Combined Shipping:
We offer combined shipping for all banknotes. To take advantage of this
offer, please add the items to your cart together and only proceed to
checkout once you are ready to pay. The combined shipping is calculated
at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the
shipping costs will not be combined that way.
  • Customs, Duty, Tariff Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs, duty or tariff fees.
  • International Shipping:
Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business
days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times
are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping
    companies, which we cannot control.
  • Postage Costs:
Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not
cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible,
sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. All orders are sent
with end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability.
  • Untracked Shipping Requests:
If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option,
we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request. If untracked
shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the
mail, and the buyer is strictly responsible for any losses in transit.
  • Tracking and Logistics:
Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own
Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times
and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are
challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world,
making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal
service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as
we absolutely can’t control that remotely.

Customer Conduct

  • Please be respectful when communicating with us. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour from buyers.
  • If you do not agree with the postage cost or any other terms, please refrain from making a purchase.
