Title
1970s Australia Launceston Airport Tasmania Ansett ANA TAA Boeing 727 Postcard
Front
A colour elevated view of Launceston Airport in northern Tasmania, looking across the apron toward the terminal building and the farmland beyond.
The foreground is occupied by the broad pale concrete apron, marked with painted parking guidelines and taxiway edges, with a strip of grass and ploughed red-brown earth along the bottom of the frame.
Two Boeing 727 tri-jet airliners stand parked on the apron facing the terminal. At the left is an Ansett-ANA aircraft, finished in white above and bare metal below with a broad dark red cheatline, carrying the titles “ANSETT-ANA” in red along the forward fuselage and a tall red fin bearing the airline’s white device, with airstairs and ground equipment beside it. At the right is a Trans Australia Airlines aircraft in white and bare metal with a dark cheatline, carrying the titles “TAA” with the word “JET” alongside on the rear fuselage, and a fin in white and dark blue. Both aircraft show the 727’s distinctive T-tail and rear-mounted engine arrangement, and both cast long shadows across the apron.
Behind the aircraft stands the terminal, a long low modern building of 1960s design with a flat roof, a projecting canopy and a continuous glazed frontage of tall windows framed in dark mullions. The name is displayed in widely spaced letters across the fascia, reading:
“LAUNCESTON”
A lower single-storey wing extends to either side with covered walkways and gate positions, flagpoles stand along the apron frontage, and ground equipment, baggage carts and a fuel vehicle are parked beside the building.
Beyond the terminal lies the landside forecourt with large sealed car parks filled with motor cars of 1960s and 1970s type, service roads, mown lawns and access drives, bounded by a main road running across the picture.
In the background the countryside rises gently in a patchwork of green and golden paddocks divided by hedges and shelter belts, with stands of eucalypts, scattered farm buildings and houses, and low blue hills along the horizon beneath a pale sky with light cloud. The card has a white border and a semi-glossy photographic surface.

Estimated Era
Circa 1970s. The caption states that the terminal was built in 1965, giving a firm earliest date, and the building is shown in its original unaltered form. The airline liveries provide the closest dating: Ansett operated under the Ansett-ANA title until it was shortened to Ansett Airlines of Australia in the late 1960s, though the older titles remained on aircraft into the following years, while Trans Australia Airlines used the TAA branding shown here until its rebranding as Australian Airlines in 1986. The Boeing 727 entered service with both carriers in the mid 1960s and operated the mainland to Tasmania trunk routes through the 1970s. The motor cars filling the car parks are of 1960s and early 1970s type, supporting a photograph taken in that period.
Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading
- Please
closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or
banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be
subjective and varies from person to person. - Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
- Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
- Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.
- If
you have any questions or require additional information, I am more
than happy to assist. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
Shipping Information
- Combined Shipping:
We offer combined shipping for all banknotes. To take advantage of this
offer, please add the items to your cart together and only proceed to
checkout once you are ready to pay. The combined shipping is calculated
at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the
shipping costs will not be combined that way. - Customs, Duty, Tariff Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs, duty or tariff fees.
- International Shipping:
Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business
days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times
are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping
companies, which we cannot control. - Postage Costs:
Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not
cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible,
sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. All orders are sent
with end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability. - Untracked Shipping Requests:
If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option,
we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request. If untracked
shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the
mail, and the buyer is strictly responsible for any losses in transit. - Tracking and Logistics:
Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own
Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times
and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are
challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world,
making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal
service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as
we absolutely can’t control that remotely.
Customer Conduct
- Please be respectful when communicating with us. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour from buyers.
- If you do not agree with the postage cost or any other terms, please refrain from making a purchase.
