Title
1970s Australia Drages Historical Aircraft Museum DHA-3 Drover VH-AZS Postcard
Front Description
A colour photographic view of a de Havilland Australia D.H.A.-3 Drover light transport aircraft, registration VH-AZS, standing on a dry, reddish-brown gravel and dirt airfield apron beneath a broad sky of heavy white cumulus cloud with patches of blue. The aircraft is photographed in three-quarter rear-left profile, the tail nearest the camera and the nose receding toward the right of the frame, so that the full length of the high-wing monoplane fuselage fills the width of the card.
The aircraft is finished in an overall gloss white scheme with a dark navy-blue cheatline running the length of the fuselage from nose to tail, edged with a thin light pinstripe. Along the upper fuselage, in dark angled block capitals following the line of the cabin roof, is the legend “DRAGES HISTORICAL AIRCRAFT MUSEUM”, with the smaller word “WODONGA” beneath it. Forward of this, near the cockpit, a small script marking reads “de Havilland Drover 3”, accompanied by a small stylised device. The single tall fin and rudder carries a circular dark roundel enclosing a white stylised bird or winged emblem above wave-like lines, and below it the registration “VH-AZS” in bold dark capitals on the white fin. Dark chevron or arrowhead motifs appear on the rear fuselage sides.
The aircraft’s high-set wing extends over the top of the frame; the starboard wing, seen foreshortened, carries a wing-mounted engine nacelle at the right of the image with a propeller blade visible, characteristic of the Drover’s three-engine layout with a nose engine and two wing engines. The fixed tailwheel undercarriage is visible: a small tailwheel beneath the rear fuselage at left, and the mainwheel with spat-less exposed tyre and oleo leg at centre-right, casting long shadows across the gravel toward the lower right of the frame. Cabin windows run along the fuselage side, with a large square window forward and smaller rectangular apertures aft; an open cabin door or hatch is visible below the wing.
At the left of the image stands a tall latticework mast or floodlight tower, topped with a cluster of lamps and fitted with a large public-address loudhailer horn partway down, indicating an airshow or public open-day setting. Beyond and below it, a dark treeline of eucalypts closes the horizon, with a white caravan or trailer parked in the middle distance and a small group of three or four spectators in casual light clothing walking across the field. On the right-hand side of the image, near the aircraft’s nose, a figure in a yellow shirt and dark trousers stoops beside a row of olive-green and yellow fuel drums, with additional figures, a metal fence or barrier, and further parked equipment visible in the background. The ground surface in the foreground shows tyre tracks and scattered stones, and the overall colour cast is warm, with the strong Australian sunlight throwing hard shadows across the apron.

Estimated Era
Circa 1975–1982. The card is a continental-size (approximately 105 x 148 mm) chrome postcard printed by Dexter Press of West Nyack, New York, for Aviation World, Inc. of Bethel, Connecticut, a publisher active in enthusiast aviation postcard series through the 1970s and early 1980s. The five-digit ZIP code (06801) without ZIP+4 is consistent with pre-1983 printing.
The strongest dating evidence is the caption itself: it records the aircraft’s TAA Great Barrier Reef service ending in 1969, passage through “several interim operators”, and its subsequent acquisition by Drage’s Historical Aircraft Museum at Wodonga, Victoria, where it is described in the present tense as maintained in airworthy condition. Drage’s museum was established in the early 1970s, placing the photograph after that point. The continental format itself only became standard for this class of card from the early 1970s onward, and the clothing of the spectators, together with the public-address mast and open-day setting, is consistent with a mid- to late-1970s Australian airshow. The card is in unused condition with no philatelic evidence to narrow the date further.
Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading
- Please
closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or
banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be
subjective and varies from person to person. - Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
- Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
- Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.

at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the
shipping costs will not be combined that way. - Customs, Duty, Tariff Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs, duty or tariff fees.
- International Shipping:
Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business
days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times
are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping
companies, which we cannot control. - Postage Costs:
Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not
cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible,
sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. All orders are sent
with end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability. - Untracked Shipping Requests:
If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option,
we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request. If untracked
shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the

Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own
Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times
and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are
challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world,
making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal
service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as
we absolutely can’t control that remotely.
