1979 Germany East Berlin Hauptstadt der DDR Multiview TV Tower Postcard

Front

Colour multiview photographic postcard divided into four panels with white dividing borders, showing landmarks of East Berlin, capital of the German Democratic Republic. A bold red rectangular caption panel at the upper right carries the printed title in black:

Berlin · Hauptstadt der DDR

Upper left panel: the Neptunbrunnen (Neptune Fountain) by Reinhold Begas, its bronze figure of Neptune brandishing a trident above a rocky mass with tritons and sea creatures, surrounded by the four reclining allegorical female figures of the Rhine, Elbe, Oder and Vistula seated on the polished red granite basin rim. Jets of water arc into the wide circular pool. Behind stretches the immensely long, gently angled Plattenbau residential block along the Rathausstraße/Magistrale, faced in pale prefabricated panels with orange-brown accented end sections and hundreds of regular windows. A low pavilion with white tent-form roofing appears at the left, with young trees, lamp standards and a broad paved plaza in front.

Upper right panel: a view across the lawns and paved walkways of the Marx-Engels-Forum area toward a large modernist office slab in grey and white curtain walling, with the Berliner Fernsehturm (Television Tower) rising behind — its slender white shaft, faceted mirror-clad sphere and red-and-white antenna mast clearly visible. To the right stand further ministry blocks and the red brick tower of the Rotes Rathaus. Pedestrians stroll along the path and sit on benches and on the grass in summer sunshine.

Lower left panel: a broad multi-lane boulevard with a long line of parked cars — recognisable small East Bloc saloons in cream, red and orange (Trabant, Wartburg and Lada types) — filling the near kerb. Beyond rise the slab-blocks of the Karl-Marx-Allee district and the tall dark tower of the Hotel Stadt Berlin (Interhotel), with the Fernsehturm again dominating at the left above the trees. Modern curved-arm street lighting, traffic signals and green verges complete the view.

Lower right panel: a wide pedestrian promenade along the Alexanderstraße/Magistrale, empty and sunlit, with large square paving slabs. A distinctive triple-globe ornamental lamp standard in dark metal stands at the centre. To the right runs the vast horizontal facade of the Haus des Reisens / Alexanderplatz block, with a continuous glazed shopping arcade and canopy at street level bearing shop signage and awnings, and many storeys of ribbon windows above. Further residential towers, the tent-roofed pavilion and mature trees appear at the left.

All four views share a strong, saturated turquoise-blue sky typical of DDR colour offset printing.

Back

Divided-back postcard printed in pale grey-brown on white stock. Unused, with no message, address, stamp or postmark. A dotted-rule stamp box occupies the upper right, and three ruled address lines cross the lower right.

The caption block at the upper left lists the four views:

Neptunbrunnen mit Magistrale
Palast der Republik mit Fernseh- und UKW-Turm der Deutschen Post
Alexanderstraße mit Fernseh- und UKW-Turm der Deutschen Post
Magistrale

(Neptune Fountain with the Magistrale; Palace of the Republic with the television and VHF tower of the Deutsche Post; Alexanderstraße with the television and VHF tower of the Deutsche Post; the Magistrale.)

The publisher’s imprint runs vertically down the centre:

BILD UND HEIMAT · REICHENBACH (VOGTL)

At the lower left:

Farbfoto: Corazza, Berlin
DDR 0,20 M

A small printing-house device appears at the lower centre, and at the lower right the printing codes:

III/26/13 A1/159/79-280159 01 15 0266

Estimated Era

1979, German Democratic Republic. The printer’s code “159/79” gives the year of production directly; the Fernsehturm (1969), Hotel Stadt Berlin (1970) and completed Alexanderstraße Plattenbau developments all appear, and the “Hauptstadt der DDR” designation places it firmly in the socialist period before reunification.

Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading
  • Please
closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or
banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be
subjective and varies from person to person.
  • Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
  • Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
  • Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.
  • If
you have any questions or require additional information, I am more
than happy to assist. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Shipping Information

  • Combined Shipping:
We offer combined shipping for all banknotes. To take advantage of this
offer, please add the items to your cart together and only proceed to
checkout once you are ready to pay. The combined shipping is calculated
at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the
shipping costs will not be combined that way.
  • Customs, Duty, Tariff Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs, duty or tariff fees.
  • International Shipping:
Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business
days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times
are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping
    companies, which we cannot control.
  • Postage Costs:
Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not
cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible,
sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. All orders are sent
with end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability.
  • Untracked Shipping Requests:
If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option,
we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request. If untracked
shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the
mail, and the buyer is strictly responsible for any losses in transit.
  • Tracking and Logistics:
Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own
Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times
and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are
challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world,
making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal
service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as
we absolutely can’t control that remotely.

Customer Conduct

  • Please be respectful when communicating with us. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour from buyers.
  • If you do not agree with the postage cost or any other terms, please refrain from making a purchase.
