Title
1984 Australia Cairns International Airport Aerial Queensland Aviation Postcard

Front
A colour aerial photograph of Cairns International Airport in far north Queensland, looking north-west across the terminal complex toward Trinity Bay, the city and the mountains beyond.

The centre of the picture is occupied by the terminal, a large low modern building with broad flat roofs of pale cream and grey, laid out in an irregular plan with projecting wings, covered walkways and canopied entrances. Landscaped grass courtyards and garden beds are set between the building arms, and a covered walkway extends from the terminal toward the apron.

On the airside to the right, aircraft stand at the gates on the dark bitumen apron. A twin-jet airliner with a T-tail in white and red livery is parked at the upper gate, a second white jet with dark markings stands at the centre stand with airstairs and ground vehicles clustered around it, and a smaller propeller-driven commuter aircraft in green and white stands further forward. Ground support equipment, baggage tractors, trailers, fuel trucks and mobile stairs are scattered across the apron, and painted stand markings and taxiway lines run across the surface. A further light aircraft is parked near the smaller general aviation buildings behind the main terminal.

On the landside to the left, extensive sealed car parks are laid out in ranked bays filled with motor cars, served by looping access roads with painted crossings, roundabouts and light poles. A coach and several delivery trucks stand at the terminal frontage, with lawns, young trees and garden beds along the approach.

Beyond the terminal the airfield extends across the middle distance, with runways and taxiways crossing broad areas of cleared ground, patches of bare reclaimed fill, drainage channels and remnant mangrove and scrub. Further airport buildings and hangars lie toward the right.

In the background the dark green mangrove fringe gives way to the pale waters of Trinity Inlet and Trinity Bay, with the city of Cairns spread along the shore as a dense low-rise townscape with a scattering of taller white buildings. Behind the city rise the steep blue-green ranges of the coastal escarpment, receding in successive layers to a hazy skyline beneath a clear blue sky.

“Cairns Int. Airport”

The card has a white border and a glossy photographic surface.

“© Copyright 1984”

Estimated Era
1984, as given by the printed copyright date on the reverse. The card was published by Peer Productions of Cairns with catalogue number PC 1064 and carries an Australian telephone number in the local format used before the national renumbering of the mid 1990s. The scene is consistent with that date: the new Cairns international terminal opened in the mid 1980s following the airport’s upgrading for overseas services, and the surrounding airfield is shown with large areas of freshly cleared and filled ground still under development. The aircraft on the apron, including a T-tailed twin-jet, a narrow-body jet and a commuter turboprop, together with the motor cars in the car parks, are all of early to middle 1980s type.

Note: Coins & Banknotes Grading
  • Please
closely inspect the photos to understand the condition of the coins or
banknotes before proceeding with your purchase, as grading can be
subjective and varies from person to person.
  • Please do not place too much hope on grading companies to grade the notes accurately, as they can be notoriously inconsistent.
  • Different graders have different opinions, eye factors, and knowledge that influence the final grading.
  • Even grading companies do not guarantee that you will get the outcome of your desired grading.
  • If
you have any questions or require additional information, I am more
than happy to assist. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Shipping Information

  • Combined Shipping:
We offer combined shipping for all banknotes. To take advantage of this
offer, please add the items to your cart together and only proceed to
checkout once you are ready to pay. The combined shipping is calculated
at the checkout page. Please do not pay for items individually, as the
shipping costs will not be combined that way.
  • Customs, Duty, Tariff Fees: Buyers are responsible for any applicable customs, duty or tariff fees.
  • International Shipping:
Shipping duration can vary, typically ranging from 14 to 60 business
days for standard delivery. Please be aware that these shipping times
are estimates and depend on the operational efficiencies of the shipping
    companies, which we cannot control.
  • Postage Costs:
Please note that international shipping via Australia Post is not
cheap. We strive to keep the shipping costs as low as possible,
sometimes even absorbing a portion of the costs. All orders are sent
with end-to-end tracking for safety and reliability.
  • Untracked Shipping Requests:
If a buyer insists on requesting an untracked, cheaper shipping option,
we reserve the right to grant or refuse the request. If untracked
shipping is granted, please be aware that we have no way of tracking the
mail, and the buyer is strictly responsible for any losses in transit.
  • Tracking and Logistics:
Please check Australia Post for tracking status. Since we do not own
Australia Post, we have absolutely no control over their handling times
and methods. Australia is a huge continent, and logistics are
challenging, coupled with one of the highest minimum wages in the world,
making costs and operations tough. Please check with your postal
service or local post offices if any unattended mail notes are left, as
we absolutely can’t control that remotely.

Customer Conduct

  • Please be respectful when communicating with us. We do not tolerate abusive behaviour from buyers.
  • If you do not agree with the postage cost or any other terms, please refrain from making a purchase.
